OGDENSBURG -- Several St. Lawrence County graduates were awarded scholarships from The Rotary Club of Ogdensburg for exemplifying the Rotary’s principles of “Service Above Self.”

Jack Veilhauer of Ogdensburg, Dakota Warren of Heuvelton, Victoria Addison of Lisbon, Shelby Dishaw of Lisbon, and Breton LaRose of Ogdensburg each received a $500 scholarship.

Students were asked to submit an application and essay detailing their commitment to service in the community. Winners were chosen anonymously based on the community service they performed.

The main objective of Rotary is service in the community in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.

They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.

The Club meets the first two Thursday mornings of each month at 7:45 a.m. in the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center's cafeteria, and the last two or three Thursdays of each month at 12:00 p.m. at the Freight House Restaurant.

For information contact Club President Michael Guimond at 393-1100.
