Norwood student selected for NCCC nursing award

NORWOOD -- North Country Community College nursing student Nicholas Deon has been selected as the recipient of the Mark Paul Whipple Memorial Award for the spring 2019 semester.

The award was created by the Whipple family in memory of their son, Mark Paul Whipple, who graduated from NCCC’s nursing program in 1976.

This scholarship award is provided annually to a returning student at the college’s Malone campus who is dedicated to pursing a degree in nursing. The recipient is selected by nursing faculty in Malone at the request of the director of the North Country Community College Foundation.

Deon, who lives in Norwood, is a first-year student in the college’s licensed practical nursing program and is considering the registered nurse program for next year. Currently an EMT, his career goal is to become a flight paramedic.

“As a returning student dedicated to pursuing nursing, the NCCC nursing faculty feels your academic achievement and dedication to your education have made you a worthy recipient of this special scholarship,” NCCC Foundation Director Diana Fortune wrote in a letter to Deon. “On behalf of the Whipple family and the North Country Community College Foundation, I congratulate you on your hard work and determination to succeed in your chosen field.”
