Mia Brown of Gouverneur was recently awarded a $2,500 Horizon Organic Producer Education (HOPE) scholarship.
Brown, 19, is the daughter of Gary Jr. and Colleen Tweedie of Beaver Creek Farm.
She was one of four students nationwide to be awarded the scholarship, which she will use to further her education in organic agriculture.
The scholarship is awarded to students who are children or grandchildren of Horizon Organic’s nearly 700 family farmers.
Brown is a two-time recipient of the scholarship.
She is a sophomore at Morrisville State College and majoring in animal science.
She is working toward her goal of owning her own dairy farm and educating others about the importance of organic agriculture, according to a press release.
