POTSDAM – Clarkson University's Dana Barry has held the position of visiting professor at Suzuka National College of Technology in Japan during October.

Barry is the senior technical writer and editor for Clarkson's Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP).

While there, she gave presentations and carried out student activities in creative engineering design. She also delivered a special lecture, titled "Important Tips for Giving Oral Presentations in English."

Her research collaborator in Japan is Dean Prof. Hideyuki Kanematsu of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

In addition, Barry carried out a Mars simulation mission with students at Mikunigaoka High School in Osaka. This activity was made possible by Space Explorers, Inc. in the United States. During the simulation, the students launched rockets and landed rovers on the surface of Mars. They used instruments aboard their rovers to obtain information about the Martian terrain and atmosphere.

Barry previously served as a visiting professor in Japan in 2002, 2005, and in 2008, when she gave a keynote address in Suzuka City. She also presented invited lectures at Osaka University in March 2010. Her trip and special presentations were sponsored by the Global Center of Excellence for the Advanced Structural and Functional Materials Design Program in the Graduate School of Engineering at Osaka University.

In addition, she served as a visiting professor in England (2003) and in Malaysia (2001, 2004, and 2007).

Barry is scientific board president for Ansted University and an officer for the northern New York section of the American Chemical Society.
