Clarkson professor promoted to associate professor of film in department of humanities & social sciences

POTSDAM — Brian Hauser has been granted tenure and promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of film in the department of humanities & social sciences in the School of Arts & Sciences.

He recently sold his first novel, “Memento Mori: The Fathomless Shadows,” to Word Horde. The novel is set to be released this spring.

His feature-length film “Nontraditional” was released in 2013 and screened at several film festivals, including the Bare Bones International Film Festival (nominated for three awards), The Catskills Mountain Film Festival, NewFilmmakers New York, as well as on the Pentagon Channel. His scholarly essays on weird cinema and adaptation studies have appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.

Hauser has received a variety of honors including the 2015 Clarkson University Outstanding New Teacher Award.

He received his bachelor of arts degree in English (1994) from The Ohio State University, where he graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He also received his master of arts degree (2001) and Ph.D. (2008) in film studies from The Ohio State University.

Before coming to Clarkson, he taught literature and film studies at Ohio State and Union College. Hauser is also a veteran of the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps, having served on active duty from 1995-1999 and again 2002-2003.
