Clarkson University Professor Goodarz Ahmadi was recently honored with the 2016 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Freeman Scholar Award in Fluid Engineering and presented with the ASME 90th Anniversary of Fluids Engineering Division Medal.

Those selected to receive the Freeman Award have “significant expertise in fluids engineering,” according to the Freeman Scholar Award Committee and the Committee on Honors.

“I was pleased to be nominated by my colleagues and to receive the award,” says Ahmadi, whose full title is Clarkson Distinguished Professor and Robert H. Hill Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

Ahmadi's Freeman Scholar Lecture at ASME Fluid Engineering Conference was about the environmental and medical applications of particles and pollutants transport and deposition, according to a press release from Clarkson.

Ahmadi received his bachelor of science degree from Tehran University and his master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue University.

He served for nearly a decade as dean of Clarkson University's Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering, before returning to full-time research and teaching in 2015.

He is a Fellow of ASME, ISME and ISCE. His research interests include multiphase flows, particle transport and deposition, particle resuspension, turbulent flows, granular flows, air pollution, and flow through porous and fractured media.

His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, NASA, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Corning, IBM, Xerox, Dura Pharmaceutical, and NYSTAR.

He has authored three books and more than 600 publications in archival journals.

He has also made more than 1,100 presentations at national and international conferences and has given more than 180 invited talks and short courses at institutions.

He has been serving as the editor, a member of the editorial board and/or editorial advisor board of 14 international journals.

Ahmadi received the Clarkson University Distinguished Teaching Award in 1988 and the Pi Tau Sigma Distinguished Teaching Award in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990.

He also received the University Outstanding Advisor Award in 1986, 1988 and 2002.

In 2015, he was inducted into Phalanx, Clarkson's highest honorary, and was awarded the Commendable Leadership Award, as well as the Clarkson Lifetime Research Achievement Award.
