Canton-Potsdam Hospital honors three Employees of the Quarter

POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence Health System has honored three Canton-Potsdam Hospital Employees of the First Quarter, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Majonica Drake, Chemical Dependency Counselor Alyssa Jenkins, and Sleep Lab RN Katie Barkley. All were nominated by their peers to receive this honor.

Majonica Drake, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, began work at Canton-Potsdam Hospital Eye Care in October 2016. Her patients had this to say about her: “Majonica is very informative and competent regarding procedures, and is able to put patients at ease while ensuring that they have the information they need. She has a great attitude, and knows how to ‘listen’ to patients.”

“Majonica is truly a great asset to our team at CPH Eye Care; she is always willing to step up and help her providers and team with whatever task that arises,” said Albert Hanson, MHA, BS, CMPE, Physician Practice Manager, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Pain Management, Physiatry, and Eye Care,, “Majonica has obtained her certification this past year as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), which shows her dedication to her specialty as well as the quality care which she provides her patients in tandem with Dr. O’Donnell and Dr. VanWagner. She’s truly deserving of this honor.”

Alyssa Jenkins, Chemical Dependency Counselor, was hired part-time in October 2016, and was made full time the next month, in the Chemical Dependency/Detox Department after completing her internship. Her patients have said that Alyssa “is sympathetic and understanding, putting patient needs first. She goes above and beyond to help in any way she can. She is grounded and calm; a joy to be around. She seems to truly care about us.”

Emily Marquart, Clinical Manager, Chemical Dependency/Detox had this to say about Alyssa: “Throughout Alyssa’s time in Chemical Dependency Services, she has displayed an impressive level of dedication, compassion, and support for our patients. She is dependable, flexible, and a consistent team player.”

“While working full-time on the Rehab Unit, she has begun to pursue her master’s in mental health counseling. Alyssa is valued and appreciated within the Chemical Dependency Services team; she has so much career potential in behavioral health services,” said Marquart.

Katherine (Katie) Barkley, RN, began her career at CPH in 2006 as a part-time sitter in the Sleep Lab, and in 2010, became an RN Polysomnographer in the Sleep Lab. Patients comment on Katie’s attentiveness to their needs and her professionalism, as well as her willingness to ensure that they fully understand processes and procedures. She makes her patients feel comfortable and listens to them carefully.

She consistently receives positive feedback from patients and their families. Katie has been with CPH since 2006, in various roles, and has steadfastly kept her focus on the best interest of her patients.”
