Former Madrid man bags record book elk

Dan White, a former Madrid resident now living in Pennsylvania, harvested a 1,000-pound bull elk while hunting in Montana in September. White says he took the beast on the last morning of an 11-day unguided hunt in the Little Belt Mountain Range. He said it took four people seven hours to pack the elk out of the woods and down a mountain. White said the kill will land him in Pope and Young’s archery hunting record book, along with the Boone and Crockett record book, which is for archery and rifle hunting.
