NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series welcomes the popular Wally Siebel All Star Big Band and singer/songwriter Robin Dow Hoppewrto the band shell over the next several days.

The Wally Siebel All Star Big Band with trombonist Wycliffe Gordon will take the stage Thursday, June 30 at 7 pm.

For 30 years the Wally Siebel All star Big Band has performed annually for the series. Each year the performances are new and fresh with the appearances of guest artists. This year jazz and gospel trombonist Wycliffe Gordon is welcomed to the mix.

Gordon enjoys an extraordinary career as a performer, conductor, composer, arranger, and educator, receiving high praise from audiences and critics alike.

He tours the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz for audiences ranging from heads of state to elementary school students.

Gordon is a former veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and has been a featured guest artist on Billy Taylor's "Jazz at the Kennedy Center" Series.

The Wally Siebel All Star Big Band is comprised of professional musicians in Northern New York including faculty from the Crane School of Music, SUNY, Potsdam, area music educators and other talented musicians.

Robin Dow Hopper will perform Sunday, July 11 at 7 pm.

Hopper grew up in Potsdam and attended Crane as a vocal major, where she earned both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in music education.

She taught Elementary Music in the Madrid-Waddington School District for 6 years before moving to Alaska in 1984.

She has been a Classroom Music Specialist in the Anchorage School District since 1984, and is an adjunct faculty member of the University of Alaska, in the Music Education department.

She feels fortunate to be one of the lucky few performing songwriters whose "day job" also revolves around music.

Her music reflects the influence of such writers and mentors as Steve Seskin, Cliff Eberhardt, Kristina Olsen, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Johnsmith, and Bill Staines, to name a few.

Admission is free but audience members will have a chance to contribute as “the bucket” is passed.
