CANTON — A new session in a series of workshops on Building a Tiny House on Wheels will be held on Saturday, April 14. It will share many details of how to build such a home, with skills being transferable to conventional building.

The Local Living Venture has partnered with the Woodhenge Self-Reliance Campus in Adams Center, for this presentation, and will lead field trips from Canton, to the building site throughout the summer for eight individual days of building and learning.

Geared to the beginner, the series of eight classes over five months will cover many facets of building, with each workshop designed to be taken on its own or as part of the series. The framework of the tiny house is in place, this series focuses on all of the finish work needed to make it a cozy home.

The April 14 hands-on session will cover rough and finish carpentry, including insulation, exterior siding, and installing windows; and, an introduction to drain plumbing, grey water and composting toilets.

Later sessions will cover: supply water plumbing, finding water, wells and heating; interior finish carpentry; wiring and energy sources; heating sources; cabinets; counter tops and tile; exterior finishes and detailing.

The workshop is presented by Jim Juczak of Woodhenge Self Reliance Campus near Watertown, in conjunction with the Local Living Venture. He is a former shop teacher of 25 years and lives with his family at Woodhenge, a 55-acre intentional community shared with several other families, featuring a number of building designs and off-grid living.

Juczak has written books and lectured on a wide variety of self reliance topics. He also consults on off-grid energy system design and specializes in deep-well solar pumps.

The cost is $60 general public or $20 for students. Housing (for those coming from a distance) and lunch are included. More information can be found at bit.ly/TinyWorkshop.
