TUPPER LAKE -- Nature Up North is organizing a winter hike/snowshoe up Mount Arab in Tupper Lake on Sunday, Jan 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Just north of the town of Tupper Lake, Mount Arab is one of the most scenic easily-accessed peaks in the Adirondacks.
This hike is 2 miles round trip (1 mile to the summit) with some steep sections and a rocky, root covered trail.
Hikers are advised to wear warm layers and pack water, a snack or lunch, and an extra layer, as it gets windy on top.
Snowshoes will be available to rent for free. Please RSVP to info@natureupnorth.org to reserve your pair.
Special guest Megan Pistolese will join the group to talk briefly about Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), an emerging regional concern.
Pistolese is Education and Outreach Coordinator at SLELO PRISM, an invasive species program supported by the Nature Conservancy.
A shuttle leaves at 10 a.m. from the St. Lawrence University bookstore, RSVP required at info@natureupnorth.org.
Hike begins at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Arab trail head.
Families are welcome.
