CANTON: Author, scientist and naturalist Paul Hetzler will lead talk, book signing, 5:30-7 p.m., TAUNY Center, Canton; copies of his latest book “Shady Characters: Plant Vampires, Caterpillar Soup, Leprechaun Trees and Other Hilarities of the Natural World” on sale.

Pajama, movie party

MASSENA: Pajama, movie party, hosted by New York Power Authority, 4-8 p.m., St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project’s Frank S. McCullough, Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center; reservations: 315-764-6679, all children pre-registered by Dec. 5 will receive a special holiday memento; movies, craft projects, visit from Santa Claus, hands-on exhibits, panoramic view.

Food distribution

HOPKINTON: Food pantry distribution, 10-11:30 a.m., Hopkinton town hall; clients should bring own containers for food and clothing; 315-328-4168, 315-328-4681.

POTSDAM: Ole Kris Kringle, (a.k.a. Santa Claus), sponsored by the Potsdam Kiwanis Club, will be at Arby’s on Market Street, 5-8 p.m.; free curly fries for children; attendees can Take photos with your own camera; donations will be accepted to help the Potsdam Kiwanis Club Programs; info: 315-265-3917, ask for Kris Kringle.

Christmas service

CANTON: Christmas service, 7 p.m., Brick Chapel Church; refreshments served, visit from Santa; bring a gift with your child’s name on it for the tree.
