Colton Winterfest
COLTON: Annual Colton Winterfest begins, “Rockin’ in the Great South Woods; silent auctions, quilt show, remembrance trees, open skating; https://www.townofcolton.com/winterfest.html ; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. family day at Higley Flow State Park, bonfire and light refreshment, free X-country ski lessons available, free rental equipment for 12 and under; noon-3 p.m. dog sled rides at Call of the Wild, 3019 State Highway 56 (South Colton towards Sevey’s Corner), $30 per ride plus opportunity for anyone to see facility and sled dogs; 11 a.m.-4 p.m. horse-drawn sleigh rides through the woods by Double H Percherons at Racquette Valley Fish & Game, free, food and drink available inside by Fish & Game Club at standard prices; 1-3 p.m. frying pan toss followed by chicken barbecue at noon at Colton-Pierrepont Amvets, cash prizes.
Artist open studio
NORWOOD: Award-winning artist Becky Harblin will host an open studio, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tanner Road, off County Road 35, in West Potsdam; 315-265-4433 for details; Harblin’s major work focuses on plein air landscapes from the local area and the Adirondacks. Her work has been accepted in a wide range of nationally sponsored art exhibits; the artist’s most recent show was the Pastel Society of America’s premier exhibit, Enduring Brilliance, in New York City, where only 130 paintings were accepted from over 3,000 submitted; Harblin has won numerous national awards for her work.
