MASSENA -- The St. Lawrence River Walleye Association and the St. Lawrence Valley Sportsmen's Club will be holding a joint information forum on restocking the St. Lawrence River at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at the Qulity Inn, Massena.

The guest speaker will be Lake Champlain Walleye Association President Robert Samson.

The 23-year-old Lake Champlain Walleye Association has over 500 members and for the past 12 years has been restocking the Lake Champlain Basin. With help from the state of Vermont, the LCWA has successfully brought back what was once a declining walleye population.

This meeting is open to all people interested in learning, understanding and helping in all stages of the walleye restocking efforts currently underway by the SLRWA and the SLVSC. They are hoping to educate the public, local businesses, youth, and anglers alike about the positive effects restocking can have on our river communities.

Also to be discussed will be the benefit of catch and release practices, and how restocking can help promote tourism of our river communities.

The St Lawrence River Walleye Association, based in Waddington, Louisville and Massena, was formed in 2003 and has been active in helping restock walleye since then. The St. Lawrence Valley Sportsmen's Club in Ogdensburg, has been has active for many years restocking walleye and helping in establishing a walleye run in the Oswegatchie River.

Both clubs are welcoming volunteers of any age.
