Waddington concert series schedule announced; first concert set for June 17 with female singing trio

WADDINGTON -- The Waddington 2016 concert series launches June 17 with a free inaugural performance by more than a dozen local artists from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the bottom of Main Street in Waddington.

Organizers are dubbing the show “Taking Care of Business,” with each performer advertising for a Waddington business.

Donations will be accepted to support future performances.

• Patty VanPatten, Mary Hamilton and Laura Ramsey. VanPatten has performed in numerous homecoming shows and is cantor at St. Mary's Church Waddington. She joins her sister, Hamilton, (member of Sweet Adelines) and local entertainer Laura Ramsey in a vocal trio. They are advertising for A Touch of Icing.

• Josh Barkley, who event organizers describe as an “entertainer extraordinaire.” He is advertising for St. Lawrence Recreation and Creative Touch Hair Designs.

• Jenna Clute, from Hogansburg, a theatre major at SUNY Potsdam. She has been performing since age 3. She will advertise River Run Fitness, JC’s Riverun Bar and Grill River Lanes.

• Larry Compeau will perform as a duo, His and Hers. They perform at the Remington Museum, the Will Rogers Institute, LBSH, Hamilton Gardens, Riverview Towers, Potsdam Park, St. Regis and Highland’s Nursing Homes. He is a former member of the North Country Fiddlers Association and has performed a variety of styles at numerous bluegrass festivals and other venues.

• Vera Concilio is the other half of His and Hers. She is an accomplished vocalist and pianist originally from Tupper Lake. She graduated from Boston University with a fine arts degree and taught vocal music in Amsterdam, N.Y. She has performed as part of a lounge act. Both Compeau and Concilio are advertising for Magical Events.

• Bobby Domena will be accompanied by Michael Welch and Steve Manders. He will advertise for Waddington Blooms, which he owns.

• John Finnegan, a native of Madrid. He has performed with various local bands and as a solo act for many years before scaling back to spend more time with his family. His performing these days is limited to cantering for Sunday services at Sacred Heart Church in Massena and for limited special events. He is advertising for the New York Power Authority.

• Art Hicks, a businessman and avid music lover. He studied piano and also enjoyed takes guitar lessons from Tracer James. This will be Hicks’ first performance on stage. He will advertise his own business, Art’s Used Cars.

• Ted Ritzko has been playing sax for about 30 years. He usually performs older rock and roll as well as jazz. He plays with the Jack Kelly Big Band, and the rock groups The Houges and The Noncommitals. Ted has also performed at the Edwards Opera House, The Madrid Farm Museum and Waddington Homecoming. When not playing, he enjoys restoring older woodwind instruments. He is advertising for Fine N Dandy Maple Products.

• Delaney O’Brian, 11, is the daughter of Brian and Michelle O'Brian. She participates in many activities including figure skating, speed skating and drama.

• Amy Mayette-Rivera, Waddington native. Her performing career began in 1995 as lead singer of a local rock band Illusion and lasted through 2003. After a hiatus period of about 12 years in order to raise two young girls, she started a solo career using both karaoke and acoustic guitar. Her genre of music varies from current country songs to classic rock and pop music. She will advertise Bluebird Gallery and Brookside Wines and Spirits.

• Anna Cassidy Scott, a native of Waddington and sophomore at St. Lawrence University, majoring in biology, where she also participates in cross-country, indoor and outdoor track. She plays piano, saxophone and ukulele and often writes her own music and lyrics. She has composed songs which have been performed at the Madrid-Waddington Central concert band and by Northern Lights Orchestra. She will advertise for Artworks Creperie.

• Dana Smith enjoys performing different music genres but is partial to patriotic songs. He has been singing since elementary school, performing with large and small groups, church choirs and as a cantor in his church. He is advertising for Waddington Hardware and Building Supply and Structural Wood Corporation.

• "Johnny Big-Bad" Wolfe is a singer, songwriter and musician familiar to North Country audiences. He divides his time between Massena and Bradenton, Fla. and is active in the music scene in both areas. He performs at private picnics, parties and campfires. He will advertise for Waddington Motel and Mack's Tavern.

• Tracer James guitarist with many local bands, a National Blues Master Finalist and music instructor. He is advertising for Sharlow’s Service Station.
