HAMMOND -- The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering the America's Boating Course.

The course will be offered August 11 and 12 at Hammond Central School from 5 to 9 p.m. Participants must attend both nights for certification. Cost is $35 per person and a family plan is available. Certificates will be awarded at the end of the second night.

To enroll, contact John Gardner @ 393-6488 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Boating safety certification is now required for all ages to operate a jet ski.

A boating safety course is also required for young adults ages 10 to 18 to operate a boat alone. This year, effective May 1, it is required that anyone, born on or after May 1, 1996, must have a boating safety class to operate a motorized boat unsupervised.
