POTSDAM -- William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" will be the premiere production in the new Proscenium Theater in SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center beginning on April 3 with performances continuing until April 13.
The college's Department of Theatre and Dance presents the comedy, featuring unrequited love, mistaken identity, pranks galore and a happy ending.
Set on a modern-day Caribbean island, this production not only dispenses with Elizabethan restrictions that traditionally denied female actors a place on the stage, but it also has women portraying many of the male characters.
SUNY Potsdam alumnus and lecturer Don Mandigo is the director.
The production will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on April 3, 4 and 5, and April 10, 11 and 12. There will also be two Sunday matinees, both offered at 2 p.m. on April 6 and 13.
Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for SUNY Potsdam faculty, staff and students.
Tickets may be purchased through the Community Performance Series Box Office, located in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or by calling 267-2277 or visiting www.cpspotsdam.org.
