Summer reading program kicks off in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Summer reading has started and the Ogdensburg Public Library, 312 Washington St., has programs all summer to keep kids engaged and learning.

Children can earn prizes by reading books. Five books earns a small prize and a chance to win one of our grand prizes.

Readers can pick up a reading log at the Ogdensburg Public Library and fill it out to start earning prizes.

This year’s prizes include small prizes like bouncy balls, slime, toy snakes and rubber duckies; and grand prizes like a musical keyboard with lesson book, accordion with lesson book, ukulele with lesson book and DVD, “My First Big Keyboard” book and “My First Xylophone” book.

The library’s first free program of the season is Didgeridoo Down Under, on Tuesday, July 17 at 4 p.m. where children will learn to play the didgeridoo and learn about Australian animals.

The Utica Zoo will visit Wednesday, July 18, at 1 p.m., with their zoomobile to let kids talk to a zookeeper and get up close to animal ambassadors from the zoo. There will also be craft sessions this month to make magnetic slime and tie-dye t-shirts.

Movie Night will be Thursday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m., featuring a film about lawn gnomes solving a mystery.

A teen craft session making magnetic slime will be Friday, July 20 at 2 p.m. for ages 10 and older.

PBS Kids – Daniel Tiger Visit will be held Monday, July 23 at 11 a.m. Check WPBS online for more details.

Family Book Club meets Thursday, July 26, at 5 p.m. to discuss the book “Frazzled” by Booki Vivat.

Tie Dye in the Park will be held Friday, July 27, at 2 p.m. Attendees should bring their own t-shirt. The event will only take place in good weather.

The library’s reocccurring program Music and Movement class for toddlers is held Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Songs and stories class for ages 3-5 is held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
