CANTON — St. Lawrence University's Department of Math, Computer Science and Statistics will host statistician Brian Macdonald from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Bloomer Auditorium, Brown Hall, room 122.
The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
Macdonald is the principal consultant at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Greater Than Plus Minus and adjunct professor of math at University of Miami and statistics at Florida Atlantic University College of Business.
His presentation, titled “Using Analytics for League Realignment and Player Evaluation in Sports,” will explain how is company gives examples of how data visualization, analysis, and optimization can be used within the National Hockey League, and in the sports industry in general, in a variety of different contexts.
