SLC Arts Council new, continuing yoga classes in July

POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council is offering new sessions and continuing classes in their yoga program in July.

All classes are held at Downtown Snell Hall in Potsdam. The teachers recommend comfortable clothing, a yoga mat, bottled water, a cushion and blanket if desired.

Contact the SLC Arts Council to register and pre-pay for classes at 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org. When you register through the Arts Council website, you have the option to pay on-line.

• Kundalini Yoga with Gurumantra Kaur is a way to exercise your mind, body and spirit with pranayama, kriyas, meditation, bhandas, mudras, mantras and visualization. This is an intensive practice, for participants of all levels of experience. Three sessions start in July, at $46 for 6 weeks: Fridays, July 1 – Aug. 5 from 8-9:30 a.m., Tuesdays, July 5 – Aug. 9 from 7:15-8:45 p.m., or Mondays, July 11 – Aug. 15 from 7 - 8:30 a.m.

• Yoga for Your Health with Terry de la Vega will meet Wednesdays, July 6 – Aug. 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In this gentle hatha yoga class students will learn to release tension, to build strength and balance, and to breathe deeply. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace, to modify the postures as needed, and to embrace their experience in the moment. Anyone under the care of a health provider is encouraged to discuss beginning a yoga practice. $69 for 6 weeks.

• Yoga Break with Monique Christensen starts two session in July. The class provides techniques to quiet the mind and enhance focus, while engaging the muscular and structural systems. Each session is $46 for 6 weeks: Mondays, July 11 – Aug. 15 from noon to 1 p.m., and Thursdays, July 14 – Aug. 18 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

• Managing Stress through Yoga with Monique Christensen continues Saturdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.. This is a mindful, non-competitive activity emphasizing the connection of the body and mind through movement, breathing and meditation. $69 for 6 weeks.
