Skiing and snowshoeing kicks off at Massena nature center

MASSENA – Now that there’s enough snow on the ground, the Nicandri Nature Center, at Moses State Park, 19 Robinson Bay Rd., has skiing and snowshoeing during their winter hours, Wednesday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also on the schedule for December are:

• Wednesdays, Yoga with Marie Kirwan to 10:15 a.m., and Woods Walk with Joel, 10:15 to 11:45 a.m.

• Thursdays, Nature Nuts Preschool Program, 10 to 11 a.m.

• Fridays, Walking Club, 9 to 10 a.m.

• Saturdays, Fish Feeding at 10 a.m.

• Saturdays and Sundays, Project Feederwatch, help track birds at the feeders.

Special programs include:

• Dec. 17, 23, and 30, Ornaments for the Birds, make some ornaments for the feeding stations outside, and to take home for feathered friends

• Saturday, Dec 30, Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe. Groups start out at 6 and 7 p.m., weather permitting, with a chance for a warm fire between loops. All levels, groups guided by staff and volunteers familiar with the trails.

• Dec. 27 and 31 at 2 p.m., a program on flight, feathers, and the features of birds of prey with Mark Manske from Adirondack Raptors.

Special school break programs include:

• Dec. 22, a 9 a.m. Trail Walk, and 1 to 3 p.m., Ornaments for the Birds

• Dec. 23, 10 a.m. Fish Feeding, and 1 to 3 p.m., Ornaments for the Birds

• Dec. 24, 10 a.m., Outdoor Games for all ages, and 1 to 3 p.m., Natural Ornaments

• Dec. 27, 2 p.m., Live Raptor Program with Adirondack Raptors

• Dec. 28, 2 p.m., Tracking Activities outdoors

• Dec. 29, 2 p.m., Birdwatching Walk for all ages

• Dec. 30, 10 a.m. Fish Feeding, 2 p.m. Intro to Snowshoeing

• Dec. 31, 10 a.m., Intro to Snowshoeing, 2 p.m., Live Raptor Program with Adirondack Raptors.

Day camps for kids ages 5 to 12 will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day Dec. 26 through 29. Nature themed activities will help fill out-of-school hours. Kids need to bring a lunch and to come prepared to go outside. So the organizers can prepare, register by calling 315-705-5022.
