POTSDAM – Jamboree-on-the-Air, JOTA, the annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, will be participated in locally Saturday, Oct. 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Sandstone Park pavilion.

JOTA will be hosted jointly by the North Country Amateur Radio Club and the Clarkson University Amateur Radio Club, and all Scouts of any age can participate.

Besides typical voice, other forms of specialized communication include digital and satellite relay.

Back by popular demand will be the Fox Hunt. This is the ham radio equivalent of hide and seek where a transmitter (called a Fox) is hidden somewhere and the scouts armed with hand-held receivers and antennas try to find it.

This is a skill useful in finding downed aircraft or lost hikers.

Patches will be available to purchase at the event.
