St. Lawrence County residents will have five walk choices this weekend, with walks in Potsdam, Massena, Canton, Ogdensburg, and Brasher Falls.

The Clarkson University Physician Assistant program will host a 5K run/walk Saturday, Oct. 20 from 59 Main Street, Clarkson Hall.

Pre-registration can be made at http://clarkson.edu/pa/pass.html for $15. The first 100 to register get a T-shirt.

Race day registration is $15, before the 10 a.m. start.

There will be refreshments, snacks and awards, and a raffle for local business gift certificates.

Proceeds from the race return to the community in support of St. Lawrence County Health Initiative’s Access to care program, which provides health screenings, follow-up care, and prescription assistance to promote preventive health care for those uninsured in St. Lawrence County.

Proceeds will also benefit the Clarkson University’s Physician Assistant Student Society, which will promote community service projects and future healthcare programs at the local and global level.

The Greater Massena Ministerial Association is sponsoring a “Stamp out Starvation” walk on Sunday, Oct. 21. The walk will begin at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Main Street.

Funds raised by walkers will help fight hunger locally. One hundred percent of the contributions raised will benefit organizations that fight hunger locally.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army, Neighborhood Center and Meals on Wheels will each receive funds raised through the SOS Walk.

The walk will cover five miles, and there will also be a one-mile course available for those who prefer a shorter walk. If you are interested in walking, information sheets and sponsor forms can be obtained from Sister Maureen Sweeney at St. Mary's Rectory or by calling 764-0239.

In Canton the annual Buddy Walk, for the acceptance and appreciation of individuals with Down syndrome, is set for 1 p.m. Sunday from Leithead Fieldhouse at St. Lawrence University. Registration begins at noon. There will be games, raffles, music and more. Info: Keri at 854-2480.

The Brasher Falls-North Lawrence-Winthrop CROP Hunger Walk will also be held Sunday, Oct. 21. Registration begins at 2 p.m. at the Brasher Falls town offices, with the walk beginning at 2:30 p.m. The walk will raise money for poverty and hunger programs, including the Tri-Town Community Services Food Pantry. Towns and cities worldwide will participate in the walk. For more information contact Gregg Stierheim at 389-5217 or pastorgreggumc@gmail.com.

A Harvest Run/Walk will be held Sunday in Ogdensburg, beginning at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center at noon.
