Remington Museum opening state juried exhibit Saturday

OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2018 New York State Juried Art Exhibition will open Saturday, Sept. 22, with a free public reception from 2-4 pm.

The public is invited to come and meet the artists at the reception, see their work, and tour the Museum.

For this year’s exhibition, the Remington Museum received 99 images submitted by 34 artists. Juror Roger Bailey selected 35 works to be in the exhibition, including drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed media works.

“It is my opinion that the work shown here is the result of ideas and exercises focused on challenging problems. The results seem to be labors of love. For me, the process of working is the most vital aspect of this exhibition,” said Bailey.

“It is great to see the diversity and the energy represented here. While the galleries and museums of New York City get plenty of attention, and involve big money, the work exhibited here at the Remington in Ogdensburg should not be taken lightly,” he said.

The exhibition will be on display during the Museum’s fall season, continuing through into the new year and ending Sunday, Jan. 13.

Many of the works on display will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefit the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. The exhibit will have an online gallery at www.fredericremington.org.

The artists in the exhibition are: Steven C. Cobb, Massena; George Osier, Ogdensburg; Beverly J. Patchin, Lisbon; Stephen Cressey, Waddington; Kasarian Dane, Madrid; Michiko Taylor, Potsdam; Julie Pratt and Ginny B. Schwartz, both of Canton; Suzanne Lebeda, South Colton; Paul N. Pedersen, Hermon;

And, Georgette Bacon, Nicholville; Anni Lorenzini, Chazy; Lynne Reichhart, Westernville; Kathleen Mereand, Watertown; John Elwood Cook, Wellesley Island; Gregg Fedchak, Boonville; Lynda Mussen, Peru; Diane E. Leifheit, Paul Smiths; Eleanor Sweeney and Kenneth Wiley, both of Saranac Lake; Janet Marie Yeates, Northville; Ruth Crotty, Saratoga Springs; Gary Larsen, Edinburg; and Mark "Gig" Goldstein, Middleport.
