Remington museum in Ogdensburg honoring two longtime trustees later today

OGDENSBURG — At the first tea in its annual “Art Highlights and Tea Series” later today, Jan. 10, the Frederic Remington Art Museum will recognize the service of two of its long-serving trustees, Kathie Wade and Ann Spies.

In addition to their service as trustees, both have made substantial volunteer contributions to the Remington Museum, including years of work on the "Art Highlights and Tea" program.

Ms. Spies left the board in 2017, having served the maximum of 3 sequential terms, totalling 9 years of service. Ms. Spies was instrumental in the Museum's completed Centennial Campaign and resulting restoration of the Parish Mansion.

She also helped create a strong and diverse board in her years as chair of the nominating committee. Kathie Wade has completed three years as President of the Board of Trustees, and will continue to serve as trustee for two more years until her final term is completed.

Under Mrs. Wade's insightful leadership, the Remington Museum has thrived and a new strategic plan was created. The Museum is grateful for all their selfless contributions, and hope their meaningful involvement will last long after their trusteeships are over, said a press release from the museum.

The program will follow and earlier presentation by James D. Carl about French architect and landscape designer Joseph Ramée and his work in the North Country in the early 1800s. Ramée was brought to America in 1812 by David Parish of Ogdensburg to participate in Parish’s land development efforts in the area.

At 3 p.m., a tea will be served in the parlors, courtesy of Ann Groome and friends. The cost is $10 for Remington Museum members and $15 for non-members.

The “Art Highlights and Tea” series takes place from January through April on the second Wednesday of each month. Lectures begin at 2 p.m. and are always free and open to the public; the tea, organized and run by volunteers, begins at 3 p.m.

Seats for the tea fill up quickly, so it is recommended to reserve spots early on. Call 315-393-2425, email desmond@fredericremington.org, or reserve seats at the teas online at fredericremington.org.

The Frederic Remington Art Museum is located at 303 Washington St.
