OGDENSBURG -- The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadron will participate in the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” campaign’s attempt to get thousands of people around the world wearing life jackets to promote safe boating.
On May 21 outside the Dobisky Center at 11 a.m., Mayor Wayne Ashley will read a proclamation declaring a “Safe Boating Week,” followed by a group picture in life jackets.
People around the world will do the same.
The “Ready, Set, Wear It” campaign says in 2015, 10,917 people and several dogs participated, including some in Ogdensburg. Most of the events were in the United States, with others in Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Nigeria, South Korea and Vietnam. The group says it set a world record and they hope to beat that number this year.
