CANTON -- Traditional Arts in Upstate New York will host a quilting bee to tie its 30th Anniversary Signature Quilt beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the TAUNY Center, 53 Main St.

A Mennonite sewing circle from Lewis County will set up a quilt frame to demonstrate the process of tying three layers of a quilt together.

Guests are invited to watch the quilters work as well as help tie some knots.

The quilt will become part of TAUNY's permanent collection and will be unveiled at TAUNY's annual donor reception on Friday, Nov. 4. After the unveiling the quilt will be displayed in the main gallery.

Area needleworkers have spent the past few weeks stitching signatures featuring the names of local individuals and businesses on quilt blocks.

Quilter Jill Josephs of Potsdam, the Canton-based North Country Stitchers, and members of a Mennonite sewing circle in Lewis County have all volunteered to piece, embroider, and tie the heirloom quilt. Regional quilt shops Celtic Knot and Misty Hollow donated supplies for the project.

The quilting bee will also mark the final day to view "Warmth, Remembrance, and Art: 200 Years of Quilts and Comforters in Northern New York," an exhibition including more than 70 quilts.
