Potsdam's Ice Storm girls hockey team raising money for national championship trip; dinner at Tardelli's March 22

The Potsdam Ice Storm age 19 and under team, which won the state championship on March 13, is now raising money to travel to Anaheim, Calif. March 28 to April 4 to participate as one of 12 teams in the National Championship Tournament.

To help cover the costs of travel and lodging, and to insure that all team members are able to compete, team members planning a spaghetti dinner, conducting a bottle drive and asking friends and businesses to consider a donation to their program.

The girls are having a spaghetti dinner at Tardelli’s restaurant, 141 Market St., Potsdam, on Tuesday, March 22 from 4-8 p.m. Takeouts will be available and reservations are suggested for dine-in meals. Cost will be $8 per plate. Tardelli’s phone number is 265-8446. Delivery will be in the immediate local area. A silent auction for tickets to a Montreal Canadians’ hockey game in Montreal will also take place.

Anyone wishing to donate returnable bottles or cans to benefit the team can drop them off at CJ’s, SeaComm Plaza, Potsdam and ask to have them credited to the 19U Ice Storm Girls.

Those interested in making a donation may make checks payable to Potsdam Youth Hockey and send them to Misty Grant, 1315 County Route 35, Canton, NY 13617

Team members are: Emily Babcock from Massena, Monique Cornett from Potsdam, Karley Cree from Akwesasne, Kamrie Dandrow from Russell, Jessica Denoncourt from Ogdensburg, Darby Eldridge from Winthrop, Morgan Garlock from Alexandria Bay, Laura Gonzales from Massena, Makenzy Grant from Canton , Mackenzie Lennox from Canton, Kaycee MaGuire from Potsdam, Teesha Mitchell from Akwesasne, Tia Mitchell from Akwesasne, Victoria Reagan from Norwood, Bethany Rogers from Massena, Caitie Russell from Alexandria Bay, Abigail Scott from Potsdam , Abbrielle Tardelli from Potsdam, and Sky Timmons from Fort Covington. The team is coached by: Eric Dandrow and Pete Timmons

At the state championships, the team played the number 2 seed from the Central NY region Lysander Lighting on Friday the 11th and recorded a 1 to 1 tie. Saturday the 12th the girls played the number 1 seed from the West the West Seneca Wings and recorded a 4- 1 win. Then the Ice Storm played the number 4 seeded and host Perinton Edge (last years NYS Champion).

After going into the 3rd period ahead 1-0 the girls came out flying and scored 5 unanswered goals to record a 6-0 win. They then played the number 1 seeded Ithaca Shooting Stars in the semi-finals. The Ice Storm never looked back and played a great game to a surprising 6-0 dominating win. In the Championship game the Ice Storm played the Perinton Edge for the 2nd time in two days.

They ended up defeating the Edge by a score of 6-3. The ladies weekend can be summed up this way. With stellar goaltending by Tardelli and Russell, the girls outscored their opponents by a score of 23-5.
