Potsdam and Norfolk Lions will raise funds for local sight projects at the annual White Cane Sale Days from 4-7 p.m. on Fridays, Oct. 12 and 19, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 13 and 20.

Highly visible in bright yellow Lions vests, club members will be at Walmart (Fridays only), Potsdam IGA on Elm Street, Kinney Drugs on Maple Street and Market Street, the Hometown Cafe and Perry’s Market in Norwood and Cafe 56 in Norfolk (Fridays and Saturdays).

Donations help support the Lions’ vision screening program for local preschoolers and kindergarteners.

Several hundred children a year receive free vision screening. Screening can identify possible vision problems for referral to healthcare professionals.

The Lions also provide eyeglasses to local children, based on recommendations from school nurses.

The two clubs are in the process of merging.

After final approval, the new club will be Raquette River Lions.

The Lions meet at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at The Lobster House in Norwood.

New members are welcome.

The White Cane Sale symbolizes the red-tipped white cane sometimes used by the visually impaired to navigate at home and out in public.

This year’s sale is held in conjunction with Lions World Sight Day, Oct. 11, when Lions throughout the world focus attention on eliminating preventable blindness and improving sight.
