Potsdam Computer Center offering classes in Skype, Facebook, Microsoft Word, Excel

POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Computer Center, 2 Park St., will host several classes throughout July including Skype, Facebook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

A class to learn how to use Skype will be held July 1 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This class will teach participants how stay in touch with friends and family. Learn how to see and speak with those across the USA or even in another country. The class is free.

Intro to Microsoft Excel will be offered July 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The class will introduce attendees to Microsoft Excel 2010 exploring various formatting tools necessary to create a basic spreadsheet document. Topics will include setting up a basic spreadsheet, using basic formulas, and printing in Excel. This class is ideal for a beginner or someone who needs a refresher.

On July 10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. an introduction to computers class will teach participants the basics of PC computers. Topics cover creation of files and folders, how and where to save them and other aspects of file management, including documents created as well as other data saved on a computer. The nature of computer data and how to copy from one document to another will also be covered. Participants should be comfortable with handling a mouse and keyboard.

A joining and using Facebook workshop will be held July 10 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. This class will enable participants to reconnect with old friends, catch up on all the news from acquaintances , and let everyone know what you’ve been doing and what’s happening in your life.

Intro to Microsoft Word will be offered July 24 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants will learn skills needed to construct a letter or other document and a table using Microsoft Word. The most useful components will be discussed, including font style, color and size, setting margins, page orientation, line and paragraph spacing and shortcuts to bold, italic and underlined type. Preregistration is required. Participants should be comfortable using a mouse and be familiar with the keyboard. For more information, contact the computer center at 265-7230.
