POTSDAM -- The annual Potsdam Summer Festival concert by the Potsdam Community Band will be performed July 12 at 11 a.m. at the Ives Park Gazebo.

Selections for concert include the famous march His Honor by Henry Fillmore, Southwest Saga by Robert Sheldon, Clare Grundman’s The Blue and The Gray, a medley of tunes entitled Cole Porter on Broadway, a jazz feature for saxophones and band called Five to Go by Jack Bullock, the powerful By Loch and Mountain by contemporary composer Robert W. Smith, the classic Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughn Williams, an arrangement of Frank Lerner’s Selections from My Fair Lady, and John Higgins’ Batman Soundtrack Highlights, among other titles.

This July marks the fifth summer of the reorganized Potsdam Community Band, which came together in its present configuration in the spring of 2010 under the direction of now retired Potsdam High School band director Theresa Witmer.

The band has performed two to three concerts every year since that time and has given many amateur wind band players a chance to dust off their horns and perform alongside more seasoned area musicians just for the sheer enjoyment of it.

The concert is free but donations to benefit the ensemble will be accepted.

The Potsdam Community Band will perform a second summer concert July 24 at 6:30 pm in Massena’s Springs Park on West Hatfield Street as part of the Massena Chamber of Commerce summer concert series.
