Potsdam Community Band has second concert Sept. 1 at Potsdam High

POTSDAM – The Potsdam Community Band, started just this past June, is planning a second concert, on Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of Potsdam High School. Rain location will be the auditorium.

The band's first performance, during Potsdam Summer Fest, brought together 85 musicians and played for an enthusiastic crowd at Ives Park.

Many members expressed a desire to continue the Band, under the direction of Potsdam High School Band Director Theresa Witmer, so organizers put together this second event, which feature a band of over 70 musicians.

Favorites such as Edmondson's "An American Tribute," "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by Sousa, and local composer Art Frackenpohl's arrangement of "The Entertainer" will be on the program, along with Band classics such as Holst's "First Suite in E flat," the "Thunder and Blazes" march by Fucik, and "Bugler's Holiday" by Leroy Anderson. In addition, the Band will perform "Greek Folk Song Suite" by Cesarini, "All Through the Night," arranged by Nestico, the easily recognizable pieces of Offenbach's "Ballet Parisien," and "John Williams in Concert."

Admission is free, and audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket or a lawn chair.
