POTSDAM – The Orchestra of Northern New York will treat the audience to a rollicking popular/classical program that will be truly “Out of this World” Wednesday, June 29, at 7 p.m., in Hosmer Hall, SUNY Potsdam.
Selections will help recognize the U.S. and Canada’s independence, and also feature extraterrestrial compositions.
The Orchestra will open the evening with national anthems followed by Morton Gould’s spirited American Salute. Armed Forces Salute will precede Sousa’s El Capitan, conducted by Brian Mac Dougall, winner of this year’s Guest Maestro raffle. Just before the break, the orchestra will play selections from The Planets, the innovative 1918 composition by Gustav Holst.
After intermission, the orchestra will play the Main Theme and Yoda’s Theme from Star Wars followed by the Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back, all by John Williams.
They will continue with the main theme from Apollo 13 by James Horner and Star Trek through the Years, by Jerry Goldsmith. The symphony will conclude with John Phillip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.
Tickets are available in Potsdam at Northern Music & Video, the CPS Box Office at SUNY Potsdam, and in Canton at the St. Lawrence University’s Brewer Bookstore and The Pear Tree. Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, students $10, and children twelve and under are free. Tickets are also available by calling 267-2277.
