NYSARC to hold Autism Awareness walk in Canton Saturday

St. Lawrence NYSARC’s Autism Awareness puzzle piece mascot, as portrayed by Megan MacDonald. A contest was held during the past year to “Name the Mascot.” The winner and name selected will be announced at the walk.

CANTON -- St. Lawrence NYSARC is holding a walk to promote awareness of autism spectrum disorders at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the village park on Main Street.

Registration begins at 9 a.m.

The event will be hosted by WWNY-TV’s Jeff Cole.

The Autism Awareness Walk is a non-competitive walk to promote education about Autism and support services offered by St. Lawrence NYSARC for people on the Autism Spectrum. Walkers who raise $50 or more will receive a free Autism Awareness Walk t-shirt, while supplies last.

The 2014 t-shirt features a design by artist, Selena St. John-Krywancyzk.

The first 300 registered participants will get a free gift bag. Download the registration form at www.slnysarc.org.

This year’s event will include bounce houses provided by Friot’s Bounce House Rentals, refreshments, and a flag contest. The “Name the Puzzle Piece Mascot” contest winner will also be announced by Cole.

“Wolfman” Ray Knight from radio station 95.3 The Wolf will broadcast live from the park.

There will be attendance from community organizations including the Sheriff Department’s Operation Safe Child program, ACR Health, GOAL Gallery, and The Children’s Home.

North Country Dairy, LLC is donating yogurt for everyone.

Rose and Kiernan is the presenting sponsor.
