MASSENA—The New York Power Authority will continue its free “Friday Matinees” in September with showings of contemporary and classic movies at the admission-free Hawkins Point Visitors Center and Boat Launch.
The movies will be shown Fridays at 1:30 p.m. in the visitors center auditorium. Free popcorn will be provided.
The September movie schedule:
• Sept. 2: “Jane Eyre” (2011). Driven from her post at Thornfield House by her love for her brooding employer and his secret past, young governess Jane Eyre reflects on her youth and the events that led her to the misty moors in this artful adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel.
• Sept. 9: “Grown Ups” (2010). After their high school basketball coach passes away, five good friends and former teammates reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend
• Sept. 16: “Runaway Bride” (1999). A reporter is assigned to write a story about a woman who has left a string of fiancés at the altar.
• Sept. 23: “The Conspirator” (2010). Mary Surratt is the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. As the whole nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to uncover the truth and save her life
• Sept. 30: “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” (1965). It's hijinks galore when an international air race sponsored by a newspaper publisher is undermined by sabotage.
Visitors can also sample the hands-on exhibits at the Hawkins Point facility, which presents information on such subjects as electricity generation and NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project. Visitors can also enjoy the panoramic views of the power dam. The visitors center is now operating on its summer schedule and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
