CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s experimental music ensemble, SoundSandBox, will perform the “mobile.device.ensemble,” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, in Launders Underground.
The event will feature the music styling of Associate Professor of Music Christopher Watts, senior students Caroline Bewkes, Frank Grady, and Paige Henson and sophomore student Innocent Owuor.
The group will use applications to make music on their smartphones and tablets. They have been experimenting with improvised pieces throughout the semester.
“It’s an unusual way to make music for any number of reasons, but we’ve been having fun with it,” Watts said. “My guess is that (the audience) will be surprised and perhaps baffled with the results.”
SoundSandBox holds events every semester, each showcasing a different type of music. Previous events include music created for silent films from the 1920s, directed by Music Department Chair David Henderson.
The event is free and open to the public. Launders Underground is located in Noble Center, room 001.
