CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 East Main St. Silas Wright House, will once again decorate a special memory tree in honor of the nearly 7,000 men from St. Lawrence County who served in the Civil War.
The memory tree is part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which began in 1861.
Ancestors may be added to the memory tree for $5. The SLCHA will make a memorial ornament for the Civil War veteran of your choice to hang on the tree. The ornament will have basic information about the veteran (such as name, hometown, regiment, and dates served) as well as his picture, if available.
At the SLCHA’s annual holiday open house Dec. 7 the names of all the veterans on our tree will be read and remembered. After the holidays, you will receive your veteran’s card as a keepsake. Application forms are available at the SLCHA or by email at info@slcha.org.
