MASSENA -- The Massena Visionaries, a Massena-based volunteer action group, will host a 1980s-themed co-ed kickball tournament Saturday, July 16 at the Massena Arena. Proceeds from the tournament will go toward the replacement of Massena Arena's old sound system.

Teams, which will consist of 8-12 people and must have at least four female players, will have to dress in 1980s attire to participate. Players must be 21 years old or older.

Cost is $100 per team.

Registration deadline is July 13.

Games are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the ball field adjacent to Massena Arena.

In the event of inclement weather, the tournament will be moved to Sunday, July 17.

"Fundraising efforts for the new sound system are going great so far,” said Curt Wood. “We have a goal of $20,000 to purchase the replacement system, and it is our hope to donate it to the Massena Recreation Department by the end of the year,” he said.

“We have several teams registered to play in the tournament and we encourage more teams to sign up and join us for a fun day. I couldn't be more grateful that the Massena Visionaries stepped up to help with the campaign,” said Curt Wood, a member of the Massena Visionaries who is spearheading the efforts to raise the funds.

An 80s themed post-event party with music, prizes and awards will follow at the Open Net Lounge. Door prizes and drawings will be provided by the Open Net.
