Long-time Massena radio personality, station manager and decorated Marine Corps vet to be honored June 20

MASSENA -- A graveside service for the former station manager of WMSA and the host of a popular music program will be held later this month.

Adrian S. Frazier, “Sam” to friends and family, a Bronze Star Marine Corps veteran of World War II who passed away ay the age of 93, will be memorialized at 3 p.m. Monday, June 20 at the Massena Center Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Massena Community Center on Beach Street.

Frazier died Oct. 31 surrounded by his family.

During his 36 years at radio station WMSA, he had a popular music program called “Sam’s Wonderful World of 78s.” He earned an award for his medical advice program. During this time he also continued to serve the Marine Corps in a special detachment aboard a Navy LST as a part of Marine recruitment drive.

He joined the Marine Corps prior to the start of WWII and became a member of the elite Marine Raiders. He saw action in several battles in the South Pacific Theater.

Based on his achievement in combat, he was awarded a Bronze Star.

He started at WMSA after his military service and training as a radio engineer.

Frazier was born on July 23, 1922, in Lester, Massachusetts, and grew up in the Worchester area.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jean T. Frazier, and their daughter, Jo Ann Kennedy.

Frazier was selected for the Massena Sports Hall of Fame for his avid support of Massena High School sports.
