POTSDAM – Community Performance Series will present Mambo Legends Orchestra Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hosmer Concert Hall, SUNY Potsdam.
As part of the festivities, a post-concert party will be held at the Cactus Grill & Cantina, 11 Raymond St., Potsdam, for those who attend the performance.
The former musicians of the Tito Puente Orchestra have come together as the Mambo Legends Orchestra. The group is led by percussionist John "Dandy" Rodriguez and musically directed by percussionist/arranger Jose Madera together with saxophonist/flautist Mitch Frohman, each having spent over 25 years working with Tito Puente.
Mambo Legends Orchestra showcases authentic Latin Jazz, utilizing a standard rhythm section (piano, bass, drums), a full brass section plus saxophones, traditional Latin percussion (timbales, bongos, congas), as well as vocals. The orchestra strives to keep the sound of the Big Three (Machito, Tito Rodriguez and Tito Puente) alive and well, while allowing for its progression by working with new musical concepts.
