POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital will host a Wise Women, Wise Choices free luncheon on Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. in the Barben Rooms of the Cheel Campus Center at Clarkson University.

The event will feature podiatrist David Pinegar. Pinegar will give a presentation entitled “Kick Up Your Heels: Proper Foot Care That Keeps You Active.”

Pinegar recently joined the CPH medical staff and will see patients in the new orthopedic suites (where Dr. Jeffrey Haasbeek will also practice) at the E. J. Noble Medical Building in Canton at 80 E. Main St.

He received his medical degree from the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He is trained to diagnose and treat podiatric diseases and conditions, from hammer toes and bunions to diabetic ulcers and limb preservation.

Heel pain among those over 65 years of age accounts for approximately seven percent of all foot disorders in the U.S. and accounts for a quarter of all running injuries, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Pinegar notes it can range from mildly irritating to incapacitating pain that may interfere with activities of daily life and may cause sleep disturbances.

In his presentation, Dr. Pinegar will discuss common causes of heel pain and evidence supporting the best treatment options. He will also discuss other conditions and diseases that benefit from podiatric assessment and treatment.

Reservations for Wise Women are required. Reservations: Rebecca Faber at 261-5404 or rfaber@cphospital.org.
