CANTON -- The Canton community is invited to join in as volunteers on Make a Difference Day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

High school and college students and alumni, business owners and community members will work side-by-side to improve the Village of Canton during the 18th installment of Make a Difference Day.

The event is sponsored by St. Mary's Church, Canton Catholic Campus Ministry, SUNY Canton, St. Lawrence University and the Canton Chamber of Commerce.

Some of the service activities planned include yard work and maintenance for elderly homeowners, maintenance on the school playgrounds, cleanup at Village parks, Church grounds, litter and weeds in parking lots and other tasks at public sites throughout the village.

Headquarters this year is at Lee Lounge (building next to Eben Holden) on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

Community volunteers are asked to park in the J Lot across from the football field.

Businesses may also wish to donate rakes, paper leaf bags, work gloves, or refreshments to the volunteer crews.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring tools.

Donations: Canton Chamber at 386-8255.

Request volunteer assistance at a residence: Campus Ministry at 386-2543.
