CANTON – Kendo and iaido weekly classes are restarting this fall with first class on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at St. Lawrence University Newell Field House, and registration closing the second week of September. Classes are open to the community as well as students.
Kendo, the art of Japanese fencing, is Japan's elite and most popular martial art. Iaido, a non-combative martial art, consists of solo kata movements of sword drawing and cutting. For training and class purposes a non-sharp Japanese sword or wooden bokken is used.
Class times are: Kendo: Wednesdays, 7:15 to 9 p.m.; Sundays, 2:15-4:15 p.m. Iaido: Sundays, 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. For more information, contact John Maisonneuve at 386-2319, 386-7035, or maisonnj@canton.edu.
