Jackson M. Newton display set for Colton Museum at Colton Country Day July 23

COLTON – The Colton Historical Society is assembling a display at the Colton Museum concerning the gifts of Jackson M. Newton, South Colton resident, Colton High School graduate and lifetime member of the US Air Force.

The society annually opens the museum to visitors on Colton Country Day -- July 23 this year -- for the current display, which this year will pin-point certain aspects of Newton's collection, as well as the permanent historical records.

Newton was an avid collector of international and ethnic items from his worldwide travels during his service career. He wished to have these available to the community.

He acquired the property now occupied by the Colton Museum and deeded it to the Town of Colton to be used to house his collection and for the storage of local historical records and artifacts.

Included in his collection are the articles from the Seychelles Islands, Germany, North Africa, Vietnam and Korea, as well as a coin collection, service related objects, and his wife's doll collection.

The museum will be open Tuesdays starting July 26 from 1 to 3 p.m., or any time by appointment by calling 262-2524.
