CANTON -- TAUNY, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, presents a special research talk on the current exhibit, Instrumental Stories, on Thursday, April 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at The TAUNY Center, 53 Main Street.

This presentation will feature a behind-the-scenes look at TAUNY’s 2017-2018 research project and exhibit on instruments made and kept in New York’s North Country (exhibit on display February-October 2018).

From fiddles to guitars, dulcimers to der-ders, instruments reveal the many ways people connect to North Country traditions, whether through crafting, playing, or holding onto an instrument that’s come down through a family.

The community is invited to join Camilla Ammirati, TAUNY’s Director of Research and Programs and the researcher and curator for this project, to learn about these instruments, their stories, and the journey from research project to major exhibition.

The presentation will include images, audio, and video samples from the fieldwork, as well as a demonstration of selected instruments.

Light refreshments will be served. There is a suggested donation of $5 for this program.

This program is held in conjunction with TAUNY’s current exhibit, Instrumental Stories, which features handmade and heirloom instruments made and kept in New York’s North Country.

The exhibit is on display at the TAUNY Center in Canton through Oct. 27.
