RENSSELAER FALLS – Indian Creek Nature Center, off NYS Hwy. 68, is planning star-gazing, a bird walk and a nature walk.
Star-gazing will be presented Saturday, Sept. 17 from 8 to 9 p.m. Participants will take a tour of the sky using a telescope, binoculars and the unaided eye. They will explore the mythology behind some of the constellations, and view star clusters and the Andromeda galaxy. Feel free to bring your own binoculars. Rain date is Sept. 24. A fall bird walk takes place Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m. Offered by Northern New York Audubon, participants will look for migrants as they hike through shrubland, marsh, wetland and forest along the Tower and Succession trails. “A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss But We Do” is the title of a nature walk Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Karl McKnight will lead a discussion on identifying local moss species. Those attending will test out a recently written field guide key to the local mosses and review moss natural history and the role of mosses in the world. Bring a hand lens or magnifying glass if you have one and be prepared for rain and insects. More info: leader Dr. Karl McKnight at 229-5147.
