Higley Flow State Park summer events begin Saturday with 'Birds of Prey'

COLTON – Higley Flow State Park will offer a variety of nature program, a musical presentation and other events this summer.

All are free and open to the public. However, a vehicle use fee may be charged.

The programs will include:

• Birds of Prey, Saturday, June 25, 7 p.m., at the beach pavilion. Mark Manshe of Adirondack Raptors will bring a few birds of prey to showcase their skills and beauty. He will also provide interesting facts about the birds.

• Sand-building competition, every Saturday at 2 p.m. from June 25 to Aug. 13, on the beach.

• Tye-dying, every Saturday at 4 p.m. from June 25 through Labor Day, at the nature center

• Marvelous Mushrooms, Friday, July 1, 7 p.m., at the beach pavilion. Local mushroom maven JoAnn Ferris will showcase slides of several species of mushrooms she has found in the area and show how to identify them.

• Barbershop Harmony, Saturday, July 9, 7 p.m. “Impromptu,” a quartet of local barbershop harmonizers, will perform classic songs and several originals and encourage audience participation in the beach pavilion.

• Invasive Species, Saturday, July 16, 7 p.m., at the nature center. Paul Hetzler of Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County will discuss and demonstrate several invasive species that are harmful in this region and what is being done to get rid of them.
