GardenShare, a non-profit dedicated to the local food movement, will hold a picnic Saturday, Sept. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Sugar Hill Farm, 116 Rice Road, DeKalb Junction.
Guests may bring their own picnic lunch or sample local fare from vendors at the event (rain date: Sept. 19).
Fun for all ages includes hayrides, games, face painting and contests.
Music will be provided by Animal Crackers (family song & dance), Ole Barn Boys (North Country bluegrass), and the Canton Goldenaires (barbershop chorus).
Vendors will include Mullin’s Restaurant (local BBQ & sides) and Good to Go! (St. Lawrence Health Initiative’s smoothie concessions).
Along with the Growing Community Award presentation, there will also be a Grow It, Pick It, Bring It! Contest, GardenShare’s first-ever people’s choice garden contest.
If you have something growing in your garden that sparks a sense of pride, a giggle, or just plain awe at its beauty, bring it to the picnic and enter it into the contest.
Prizes awarded for the fruit, flower, or vegetable with the most votes in the following categories: prettiest, most unusual, biggest, over all favorite.
