CANTON -- The Harvest Kitchen at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, 2043 State Highway 68, is hosting Fun with Fermentation: Winter Veggies! with instructor Flip Filippi will be Feb. 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Many vegetables that grew in the summer sunshine of 2018 are still available deep into the winter. These hardy vegetables are preserved in cold storage to eat in the non-growing season of the North Country.
Fermentation is a nutritious way to safely preserve the bountiful harvest. In winter, it's also a great way to expand our diets and create new flavor combinations with storage crops such as carrot, cabbage, radish and beet.
The Potsdam Food Co-op donated produce for this workshop.
Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
The workshop fee is $20.
Participants will get to sample fermented goods as well as take home some product and recipes.
Reserve your spot online at http://stlawrence.cce.cornell.edu/ or by contacting Cooperative Extension at 315-379-9192, ext. 229 or harvestkitchen@cornell.edu.
This workshop is part of the Harvest Kitchen Preservation Series which focuses on seasonal recipes, produced in a flavorful and safe way.
Each workshop features North-Country grown products.
