CANTON – The French and Irish in the North Country will be presented Feb. 20 at noon as part of the Patricia Harrington Carson Brown Bag Lunch program at 3 East Main St. Nearly 40 percent of St. Lawrence County residents identified themselves as having French, French-Canadian, or Irish ancestry in the 2000 census.

Johnson will discuss French and Irish immigrants in Canada and what motivated them to move south into the St. Lawrence River Valley.

Johnson has a PhD in American history from the University of Maine and is retired from SUNY Potsdam where he taught American and Canadian history for 30 years.
